AvaCollabra is a working group with the goal of fostering collaboration among researchers, software developers, and avalanche forecasters, to advance the development and application of snow cover models for operational avalanche forecasting.

Our specific objectives are:

  • Facilitating information exchange
  • Standardizing techniques and data formats
  • Promoting open data and code
  • Optimizing model chain implementation
  • Establishing best practices for benchmark testing and validation
  • Establishing best practices for visualization and supporting interpretation

Those interested in participating in the working group can request to join at https://groups.google.com/g/avacollabra. Group members participate in several ways including monthly meetings (8:00 Mountain Time / 16:00 Central European Time on the second Wednesday of each month), virtual and in-person workshops, and asynchronous projects. Information on accessing OneDrive, Discord and Teams meetings is available at Access to internal resources (password provided after joining).
